Cherry and Strawberry Lemonade Koolaid on Brown Hair

I got some real human hair extensions and dyed them with koolaid to show you what brown hair looks like with koolaid in it. I've been meaning to do this, because so many people are interested. So I'll tell you what I did.

First, I got the extensions and dip dyed them with Strawberry Lemonade koolaid. Then I took a photo. Then I dyed over that with Cherry koolaid (to see if it would darken the color). It did.

Strawberry Lemonade:

Cherry:

The problem is it's really hard to see it! But basically it turned an auburn color with the Strawberry Lemonade and a little bit of auburn/ burgundy with the Cherry koolaid. I hope you can actually see it. I tried to get the best lighting I could with these photos. Here is an edited picture to point out the color change:

Obviously, adding koolaid to brown hair is not going to change the fact that you still have brown hair. It's just going to add a tint of whatever color you used. You'd have to lighten your hair if you want it to show up more than this. The process of lightening hair may cause damage. It's really up to you if you want to do that. I would suggest trying a dip dye on your hair before lightening it, because you may be surprised to find that you like the color and then you wouldn't need to lighten your hair after all. These photos don't show the full extent of the color. If you are in the sun, you'll see a much more vibrant red color. It really depends on your shade of brown (how dark or light brown your hair is). Light brown will show the red a lot better; however, the red will still show up in other shades of brown, especially if you are in natural sunlight.

Remember that koolaid can be hard to get out of hair, so try my tips and do a strand test beforehand. I hope this helps anyone with brown hair who is interested in koolaid hair dye.

Koolaid on Brown Hair Color Chart

In this post, I'm showing photos of what koolaid looks like on brown hair that has not been lightened. Photos will be updated as more dye jobs are done.

These dye jobs were done on real human hair extensions, since I don't actually have brown hair growing out of my head. This is real human hair, nonetheless, so it's a great representation of what you'd see with your own hair if it's close to this color.

Candy Apple Red Hair Color

I didn't know koolaid could make this color.

What a beautiful candy apple red color! It looks exactly this vibrant in real life too. It looks like something you'd get from Manic Panic. This was a surprise. I was actually trying to make bright pink hair dye. I'll tell you how I did this.

I used the dip dye method. As you can see, there is an obvious line. It's not really a gradual color change. You can make the color change more gradual if you kind of move your head up and down from time to time while dip dying.

I combined Pink Lemonade koolaid and Black Cherry koolaid. I used one packet of each. I was trying to make a bright pink and I ended up with a vampire red. I'm not upset though. It turned out really nice and it even looks professional. I can't imagine that koolaid gave me such a great color. I have no idea how mixing Pink Lemonade and Black Cherry made this color.

Here is what black cherry looks like by itself:

So as you can see, there is a huge difference and I have no idea how this vampire red color came about, but I'm not going to complain. It was a nice surprise. Just goes to show you, you never know what you're going to get when you experiment with koolaid in your hair.

Color Chart of Red Koolaid Dye in Hair

There are so many different shades of red koolaid. They will show up differently in your hair depending on the color of your hair and the color of the koolaid. Here are the different red colors and how they look in light strawberry blonde/ golden hair:

This is Strawberry Koolaid dip dye:

This is Watermelon Cherry Koolaid dip dye:

This is Pink Lemonade + Black Cherry dip dye:

I will add more colors as I dye my hair. As you can see, no two reds are the same. Some look pinkish and some look orangish. Depending on your hair color, it will vary. Yours may not look like this, but it's just a general guide.

Koolaid Rainbow Hair: Blue, Purple, and Pink

Hey!

It's been a little while. I just dyed my hair with koolaid again. This time, I used blue, purple, and pink for a rainbow effect. It turned out just like I thought it would. You can see how the colors turned out in the picture.

This time I didn't dip dye. I did the conditioner method a.k.a. the long method, because it takes at least overnight. I will tell you how I did this.

First get the ingredients and things you'll need:

  • a paper plate
  • koolaid packets in whatever colors you want
  • white conditioner
  • a coloring brush (can be a toothbrush if you don't have an actual brush for dying hair or just use your hands, but your hands might get stained).
  • foil

Here's what I did. I got the paper plate and put three separate areas of conditioner on it. Each area of conditioner had about 2 tablespoons of conditioner. Then I added the different packets of koolaid to each separate area of conditioner and mixed them separately. When you're done, it should look kinda like one of those things that painters keep their paint on:

The colors I used are grape, watermelon, and ice blue raspberry lemonade. Keep the colors separate. Also, the brush you are seeing in the picture can be found at Sally's. It works really well for this kind of thing.

So then you want to separate the hair however you want. You can separate it equally or not. It really just depends on the look you're going for. I separated the hair into 3 equal parts. Then place the foil behind one of the sections and apply the first color. Be really careful because the koolaid will stain stuff and it might be a little runny too. You just have to use your own common sense when doing this to avoid accidents.

Make sure you get the pieces of hair in the back, not just the surface strands. Once you're finished, fold the foil up so that it won't drip out. I've seen people crumble the foil. This has got to be the dumbest thing ever. It's going to hurt really bad when you go to take it out if you ball it up like that. So fold the foil neatly and fold it several times into a little square.

Repeat this with the other colors and then wait overnight. My results look like this:

In the first picture, you can see more purple and pink. In this picture, you see more blue and pink. I'm not sure why. I guess it depends on how I braid it. If you want the colors to be more mixed, you should separate the hair into smaller pieces, like maybe 6 different sections instead of three. Hope you like it.

Also, the purple turned out pretty dark here. If you want a lighter color of purple, use less koolaid. Pour a little bit of the packet in, mix it with the conditioner, and keep doing that until you get the desired color. I used a whole packet of each color.
