How To Koolaid Dye Hair

Dying your hair at home with koolaid is safe, fun, and easy. There are a few methods and many ways that you can play around with koolaid. Whether your trying to get pink hair or mermaid tips, koolaid is the perfect temporary dye.

If you only want to dye the ends of your hair, dip dying is the fastest and easiest way to do that. If you are interested in getting highlights or hair streaks, you should use the conditioner method and foil your hair. If you want to dye your whole head, the conditioner method is the best way to go but make sure you have plenty of time on your hands.

Speaking of hands, koolaid can stain hands, clothing, ears, and face (as well as anything else it touches). This is what makes it the perfect dye! But this can also be a pain when you are dying your hair. Make sure you have some petroleum handy so that you can easily prevent it from dying your face or hands. You should also be careful not to dye the bath tub, sink, or floor.

Koolaid stains hair and no one can know how long it will last in their hair unless they try it. If you have a problem with this, it may be best for you to test a strand of your hair out. Some people will find that koolaid coloring naturally fades very quickly from their hair and others may have a tougher time with it.

I have strawberry blonde hair (more blonde with just a hint of red) and I am going to be my own guinea pig. I'm setting out to see what every color of koolaid looks like on my hair in an attempt to help you know what to expect. If you are reading this post a little late, you'll probably see some links on this page showing you before and after photos as well as step-by-step "how-to" articles of my many coloring endeavors. I hope at least one person benefits from this crazy experiment.

Oh, and if you are living at home, please get your parent's permission to do this. I am not responsible if you get grounded. :)

  1. this is how i did it ...
    1)first boil the water
2)then after the water is all boiled put 4 packes of koolaid in the hot water
    3)let it boil again
4)dip in your hair in the hot water for 10 or 20 minutes (your choice)
5)make a paste with conditioner with a pack of kool aid then mix it until it makes the paste
6)when your 10 or 20 minutes is over then put all the paste on your hair
    7)put foil on your hair
8)then leave it on for 6 or 7 hours
9)then take a shower and put only a small amount of shampoo and lots of conditioner
10)and then dont worry if lots of the dye comes out its just normal
    11)then your done

    1. That's cool and everything, but all that isn't necessary. Especially all the boiling. Just use hot water. You get the same results. And no need to dip and then make a paste. You should choose one or the other depending on if you want a dip dye or full head dye. Doing it the way you describe is probably why people come to this website complaining about not being able to get koolaid out of their hair after months.
